Polar bear are the most studied animal on the plant. The way they do things amuses people like no other animal. When polar bears migrate they go ashore, in Churchill, Manitoba, which is also known as the polar bear capital of the world. When they go ashore is makes it easy to count and study them. The migration is also a huge tourist attraction; “tundra buggies” take people around to see the bears from late October to late November. Although, since 1979 the ice cover has gone down about 30% because of greenhouse gases, causeing the polar bears to stay ashore for longer periods of time than they are used to, which is making them starve and not able to hunt for food, also making it hard for cubs to stay alive. The polar bears not being able to gather food for them and their cubs is increasing the polar bear attack. If nothing changes two-thirds of polar bears will be gone by 2050. (Read more…)
