Two Baby Snow Leopards Call Central Park Their New Home

Two snow leopard cubs, one male and one female, were born this summer at Central Park Zoo. These are the first Snow Leopards ever born at Central Park, and they are debuted by the Wildlife Conservation Society. The WCS paired Zoe, the 7-year-old mother, with Askai, who was sent to Central Park from the Bronx Zoo. The snow leopards from Central Park and Bronx are part of their Species Survival Plan, which is a cooperative breeding program that is designed to keep certain animal populations alive and stable. Snow leopards are one of the world’s most endangered cats, as there are only 3,500 to 6,500 remaining in the wild. They are mainly found in Central Asia, as well as parts of China, Mongolia, Russia, India and Bhutan. (Read more…)
